Carme Portaceli unveils final TNC season with Barcelona as theme

Artistic director Carme Portaceli today presented the program for her sixth and final season at the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, carrying the theme Barcelona and running from September 2026 to June 2027.

The season will open on 19 and 20 September with a special concert by Sílvia Pérez Cruz in the Sala Gran. Among the highlights is La mare Coratge i els seus fills, with Emma Vilarasau in the lead role and directed by Josep Maria Mestres, running from 29 April to 6 June 2027.

Portaceli stressed that the program bets on contemporary creation and the revision of classics such as Bertolt Brecht’s work, and recalled her defense of parity and women’s rights during her mandate. Culture counselor Sònia Hernández recognized the director’s work at the helm of the theater.

Other productions include L’hostal de les tres Camèlies by Mercè Rodoreda, the revival of La tercera fuga by Victoria Szpunberg and the Barcelona Calling L’Orient Mitjà festival, scheduled for 10 to 15 November. The season will close in June 2027 with 00:01 La Creación by Angélica Liddell.
