Flight BBQ8311, operated by Eastern Air Express on a Boeing 737-400, departed Nashville International Airport in the early hours of April 8 bound for Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA). After just over two hours, covering about 1,600 kilometers at 791 km/h and above 10,000 meters altitude, the aircraft diverted from Mississippi toward Florida due to an electrical anomaly, per FlightAware data.
Club América issued a statement explaining the incident: “We were informed that the system was showing an electrical failure.” The crew prioritized safety and opted to land in Miami, the plane's maintenance base. “As a precautionary measure, the crew decided to land at Miami International Airport,” the club detailed.
Players, coaching staff, and support personnel are safe in a nearby hotel. Management arranged a new charter flight to AIFA, declining to use the repaired aircraft, according to reports. The team confirmed April 9 was a scheduled rest day, so preparations for the Clásico Joven against Cruz Azul on April 11 at Estadio Banorte remain unaffected.
Prior to the incident, América drew 0-0 with Nashville SC in the Concachampions 2026 quarterfinal first leg at Geodis Park. The return match is set for April 14 at Estadio Banorte.
