A combined Vernon-Penticton-Kamloops curling team skipped by Jim Cotter won the 2026 B.C. Senior Men's Curling Championship with a 6-4 victory over Dave Belway's rink on March 1 in Penticton. The women's title went to Shiella Cowan's New Westminster-Vancouver team, who defended their crown by beating Danielle Shaughnessy's Kelowna foursome 6-4 in an extra end. Both winning teams will represent British Columbia at the Canadian Senior Curling Championships in Saskatoon from December 6 to 13.
The 2026 B.C. Senior Men's and Women's Curling Championships took place at the Penticton Curling Club from February 24 to March 1. In the men's final, Jim Cotter's rink—featuring third Brad Wood of Penticton, second Kevin Geistlinger of Vernon, and lead Trevor Miyahara of Kamloops—scored three points in the final end to defeat Dave Belway's Salmon Arm-Kelowna-Vernon team 6-4. Cotter's squad finished the tournament undefeated at 8-0, including a 6-0 round-robin record in Pool B and an 8-5 win over Belway in the 1 vs. 2 page playoff.
Cotter, a 10-time B.C. men's champion, described the victory as emotional. "It was a super fun week. We all get along so well," he said. "It was extra special to win one with my brother, Kevin... Trevor was our star all week... And Brad is as steady as they get." Belway's team, consisting of third Dave Stephenson of Kelowna, second Dean Mackney of Kelowna, and lead Greg Hamilton of Vernon, earned silver after a 7-3 semifinal win over Wes Craig's Duncan rink. Craig's foursome took bronze.
On the women's side, Shiella Cowan's Royal City (New Westminster)-Vancouver team, with third Jody Maskiewich, second Victoria Murphy, and lead Sandra Comadina, rallied from a 4-2 deficit to steal points in the seventh and eighth ends, then scored two in the extra end for a 6-4 win over Shaughnessy's Kelowna rink of third Renee Simons, second Lisa Stephenson, and lead Dawn Everest. Cowan's team, the defending champions, qualified through the C event and will join Cotter's rink at nationals. Shaughnessy's team earned silver, while Donna Mychaluk's Langley-Coldstream-Salmon Arm-Parksville rink, featuring Penny Shantz, Tracey LaTosky, and Janet Suter, won bronze.
Kitty Freeborn of Penticton and Dean Mackney were named recipients of the Lottie Hill Fair Play Awards.
