Court orders preventive detention for suspect in “God of War” homicide

A man identified as L.A.C.L. was placed in preventive prison on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in the double homicide of Vaster Miller Guajardo, a criminal leader known as the “God of War”, shot dead in September 2024 in La Pintana. The attack, carried out by a rival gang over drug trafficking disputes, also killed a 55-year-old civilian. The court granted 90 days for the investigation.

On September 10, 2024, Vaster Miller Guajardo (31), leader of the criminal band “Vaster Miller” in the Santo Tomás neighborhood of La Pintana, a southern commune of Santiago, was pursued by members of a rival gang in a public street. Miller, nicknamed the “God of War” for his affinity for firearms since adolescence, entered an apartment to take refuge, but the attackers fired into the dwelling, killing him along with J.E.R.M., a 55-year-old man who was there with his brother J.O.R.M.

The prosecutor from the Organized Crime and Homicides Team (ECOH), Ernesto González, formalized the suspect L.A.C.L., a Chilean national, on Wednesday for two counts of simple homicide and one of illegal possession of a firearm. “Today, before the 15th Guarantee Court of Santiago, the investigation was formalized against a male subject [...] in the context of a confrontation between two rival gangs disputing territory for committing crimes linked to drug trafficking,” González explained.

The court determined that the suspect's freedom poses a danger to societal security, ordering preventive detention. This is the second arrest related to the case: the first was apprehended in September 2024 by Carabineros. L.A.C.L.'s capture followed months of investigation by Carabineros' OS9 unit, including criminal analysis and judicial proceedings, ending with an arrest warrant from the 15th Guarantee Court.

Miller, also known as “Mono Vaster” and a member of Colo-Colo's Garra Blanca barra, had been released from prison in 2023 after serving a sentence. He fled to Argentina due to death threats, then traveled to the United States where he was arrested for house burglaries and extradited to Chile in 2024. On social media, he displayed money, luxury cars, and Glock pistols, earning respect in his criminal environment in Santo Tomás, where he was born and operated.
