COVID resurgence in Formosa: masks recommended again

Argentina's Formosa province saw a rise in COVID-19 cases last week, with a 24% positivity rate. The Ministry of Human Development urged residents to resume preventive measures, including mask use in enclosed spaces. No hospitalizations from the disease are reported currently.

In recent days, Formosa province in Argentina faced a COVID-19 resurgence, prompting the Ministry of Human Development to advise returning to preventive practices to halt virus spread. The provincial report indicates that last week, 1,422 surveillance and active case detection tests were conducted, with 341 positives, yielding a 24% positivity rate.

Cases are concentrated in Formosa capital with 250 positives, followed by El Colorado with 19, Laguna Blanca with 16, and Estanislao del Campo with 14. Other areas like Clorinda had eight cases, Palo Santo seven, and Villa Dos Trece six. Overall, there are 408 active cases province-wide, with 164 medical discharges reported. No patients are currently hospitalized for COVID-19, and 1,765 daily clinical follow-up phone calls were made.

The official statement highlights measures such as frequent hand washing and alcohol gel use; avoiding sharing mate, tereré, bottles, or straws; properly wearing masks in crowded enclosed spaces; cross-ventilating rooms; coughing or sneezing into the elbow crease and using disposable tissues; and keeping distance from those with respiratory symptoms.

From the pandemic's start through November 16, Formosa has recorded 151,429 diagnosed cases, 149,593 recoveries, and 1,351 coronavirus deaths. The province has reinstated some pandemic-era measures in response to the case increase.
