Deputy chief minister attacks BRS ahead of Telangana municipal polls

On the penultimate day of campaigning for Telangana's municipal elections, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka launched a scathing attack on the Bharat Rashtra Samiti, accusing it of burdening the state with massive debt and poor governance. He highlighted Congress's welfare initiatives.

Addressing a public meeting in Wyra town of Khammam district after holding a huge election rally on Sunday, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) had pushed the state into a debt burden of ₹8 lakh crore during its 10-year rule. “Should people vote for a party that looted the state for 10 years,” he asked.

Addressing a huge gathering on the penultimate day of electioneering, Mr. Vikramarka said the previous BRS rulers had betrayed the people and looted public money, leaving the state in a precarious financial position. After coming to power, the Congress government implemented a plethora of pioneering welfare schemes for the welfare of all, including construction of Indiramma houses, free travel for women in TGSRTC buses, free fine rice, and free electricity of up to 200 units to households under the Gruha Jyoti scheme.

He said the previous BRS government had failed to conduct the Group-I recruitment examination during its 10-year tenure. The Congress government has successfully conducted Group-I, Group-II, and Group-III examinations and filled 70,000 government jobs within two years of coming to power. The “people’s government” initiated a slew of concrete measures to support women self-help groups by extending interest-free loans and providing skill development training for their economic empowerment.
