Destiny 2 final update drives major player surge on Steam

Destiny 2 saw its largest concurrent player peak on Steam in nearly two years after the release of its final update, Monument of Triumph, on 9 June.

The update reached 167,867 concurrent players, a sharp increase from the sub-40,000 peaks recorded since the start of the year. It marked the biggest jump since the all-time high of 314,634 set with The Final Shape in June 2024.

Monument of Triumph restored previously vaulted content, reversed some prior changes and added material originally planned for future expansions. Bungie also restructured the game into the Destiny 2: The Collection bundle, priced at $25, which climbed to second place on Steam's global top sellers list.

Community efforts, including a petition for Destiny 3 and organised events, contributed to the turnout. The update received broadly positive feedback.

The rise coincided with a decline for Bungie's extraction shooter Marathon, which fell to a peak of 17,986 concurrent players on Steam.
