Director Lauren Montgomery confirmed that production on the animated film 'The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender' has wrapped after four years, defending its quality despite the recent move from theaters to a Paramount+ premiere in October 2026.

In an Instagram post, Lauren Montgomery, director of Avatar Studios' 'The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender,' announced that the film has officially wrapped production. "Aang movie is officially wrapped," she wrote. "We screened the final film for the crew and celebrated the end of a four-year journey. Now it waits in limbo until its release in October. I’ve never worked on an Avatar project that was easy and this was no different. But it was worth it. I’m so proud of everyone who was a part of this and the amazing thing we built together."

As previously reported, the sequel to 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' follows an adult Aang fighting to save his culture and was shifted from a theatrical release to Paramount+ on October 9, 2026, after multiple delays. The voice cast includes Eric Nam, Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, Román Zaragoza, Steven Yeun, Dave Bautista, Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Freida Pinto, and Ke Huy Quan.

Montgomery pushed back on perceptions of the streaming move, stating, "The movie is amazing!!! The recent decision to move us from theatrical to streaming might give the impression that the quality wasn’t sufficient, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. This movie deserves to be seen on a big screen!!! Can’t wait for you all to see it!" Paramount+ Head of Originals Jane Wiseman previously noted the platform's role as the streaming home for the Avatar animated universe, including the upcoming series 'Avatar: Seven Havens.'
