Egypt and France signed a declaration of intent on Monday for bilateral cooperation in the field of migration. The agreement focuses on tackling the root economic and social causes of irregular movement rather than solely managing borders.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty described the declaration as an important milestone. He said it activates the strategic partnership launched in April 2025 during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Egypt.
Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s approach, which includes cooperation in higher education, vocational training and job creation. He also noted the burdens of hosting refugees and highlighted Egypt’s success in preventing illegal migration boats from departing its shores for Europe in recent years.
