Eight luxury vehicles linked to Zaldy Co seized in BGC condo

Authorities seized eight luxury vehicles linked to former Rep. Elizaldy Co from a condominium parking area in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, on Thursday night, January 8. The action followed a court-issued search warrant due to missing import documentation and unpaid duties, as flagged by the Bureau of Customs. The vehicles, including a Rolls Royce and Escalade, were registered under companies and individuals connected to Co.

On Thursday night, January 8, law enforcement agencies conducted a joint operation at a condominium parking area in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City, seizing eight out of nine luxury vehicles associated with former Rep. Elizaldy Co. Police Colonel John Guiagui, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) NCR, stated in a DZBB interview that the vehicles were registered under Sunwest Inc., co-founded by Co; Misibis Resort and Hotel, reportedly owned by him; and his wife Mylene Recinto-Co's name. Among the seized were a Rolls Royce, Toyota Sequoia, Escalade, Lexus, and Fortuner. No documents were found inside them.

Initially, 15 vehicles were flagged for monitoring, with others lacking registration taken by the Highway Patrol Group (HPG). One targeted vehicle escaped before the operation, while an earlier removal attempt was halted by Taguig City Police. Authorities grew suspicious due to armor plating on some vehicles, noted Customs Deputy Chief of Staff Chris Bendijo.

The CIDG plans to seek a warrant for parking slot ownership records, potentially linked to condominium units. "If you don’t own a condominium unit, then who does this belong to? These are designated parking slots, so they must be paid for," Guiagui explained. The vehicles were temporarily moved to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) parking lot.

Co was declared a fugitive by the Sandiganbayan in a graft and malversation case involving a P289.5 million flood control project in Oriental Mindoro. He left the country in July under House travel clearance and resigned two months later amid allegations of budget manipulation and kickbacks. Like the Discayas' vehicles, these may be auctioned as part of the government's anti-corruption drive to recover funds.
