Ethiopia and Russia sign nuclear power confidentiality agreement

Ethiopia's Nuclear Energy Commission and Russia's Rosatom Energy Projects have signed an agreement to protect confidential nuclear power information during a meeting in Moscow. This pact supports the development of Ethiopia's first nuclear power plant. Officials emphasized the importance of safeguarding secrets amid global nuclear technology competition.

On Tahsas 8, 2018 E.C. (Fana Media Corporation), the Ethiopian Nuclear Energy Commission and Russia's Rosatom Energy Projects finalized an agreement to protect confidential nuclear power information. The signing occurred during their first bilateral meeting in Moscow from Tahsas 6 to 10, 2018 E.C., involving Commissioner Sandokan Debabe and Director Andrey Rozhdestvenskiy. Discussions included the agreement and a roadmap for review and recommendations.

According to Commissioner Debabe, protecting sensitive data is crucial in the global competition for nuclear technology. Both nations are determined to operationalize prior commitments to build and develop Ethiopia's inaugural nuclear power plant. This project forms a significant component of Ethiopia's broader development strategy.

The earlier memorandum from the World Atomic Summit in Moscow aligns with an overarching action plan. The Ethiopian Nuclear Energy Commission referenced agreements between Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) and Russian President Vladimir Putin to utilize nuclear technology for peaceful applications and as a reliable energy source. This agreement underscores collaboration in international development efforts.
