Former LSK president Faith Odhiambo joins Linda Mwananchi movement

Faith Odhiambo, the former Law Society of Kenya president, has joined Edwin Sifuna's Linda Mwananchi movement. She was welcomed on Tuesday alongside the group's leadership next to a campaign caravan. It remains unclear if the move marks her formal entry into active politics.

Sifuna posted images of the welcome on Tuesday with the message: “Full parade to welcome Madam President. Welcome to Linda Mwananchi Faith Odhiambo.” Odhiambo has been a vocal critic of government policies she argues undermine human rights and freedoms of expression. On the same day, Odhiambo joined other lawyers in criticising a High Court judgment on the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. She highlighted concerns over the right to a fair hearing after the court awarded Ksh50 million in damages for a constitutional breach but upheld the impeachment. Odhiambo said the ruling raises questions about whether such a violation was severe enough to invalidate the removal process. She noted that the right to a fair hearing is a substantive constitutional guarantee rather than a procedural formality. Attempts to reach Odhiambo for comment were unsuccessful. In July 2024 she declined a presidential appointment to the Public Debt Audit Task Force, which the LSK had described as unconstitutional.
