Füchse Berlin's championship trophy stolen from office

Just five and a half months after winning their first German handball championship, thieves stole Füchse Berlin's silver trophy from the club office. Police are investigating, aided by footage from a hidden camera. The club has reported the incident to the Handball Bundesliga.

On June 8, 2023, Füchse Berlin celebrated their first Handball Bundesliga title and received the trophy from league chief Uwe Schwenker. The silver cup, made of 925 sterling silver, measures 46 centimeters in diameter, weighs about 2.9 kilograms, and is valued by the manufacturer at around 12,000 euros.

The theft occurred in the club's office at Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin. Office manager Volker Zerbe confirmed the incident to the news agency dpa. The "Bild" newspaper first reported it. On Tuesday, the theft was reported to the police, who have begun investigations.

Managing director Bob Hanning expressed hope for a swift resolution, as a hidden camera captured the theft. Füchse Berlin also notified the Handball Bundesliga (HBL), which confirmed the report upon inquiry.

The incident highlights security issues at the champion club, which has recently faced internal conflicts. Police are reviewing the footage to identify the perpetrators.
