Grigor Dimitrov lost in the first round of qualifying at Roland Garros, ending his streak of appearances at the French Open that dated back 16 years. The 35-year-old Bulgarian fell to Portugal's Jaime Faria by a score of 3-6, 7-5, 7-6.
Dimitrov served for the match twice during the contest on Court Suzanne-Lenglen but was broken both times. Faria, the 10th seed in qualifying, described the turnaround after trailing in the second set. “I was a break down in the second set, he was serving for the match. I just found force to turn it around,” he said. Dimitrov waved to spectators as he left the court with his bags following the defeat.
