The High Court has ruled on the impeachment case of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The decision by a three-judge panel is expected to carry major political implications ahead of the 2027 elections.
The High Court through judges Anthony Mrima, Eric Ogolla and Freda Mugambi rejected claims of bias and conflict of interest. The court said public participation met the required constitutional standard despite some operational challenges. The ruling means Gachagua will head to the Court of Appeal. Article Six of the Constitution bars him from holding public office for ten years after removal. Analyst Dr Isaac Gichuki said each side may appeal. The outcome could affect the political prospects of other leaders including Kalonzo Musyoka and Fred Matiang’i.
