IGF 2026 winners highlight indie game excellence

The Independent Games Festival Awards for 2026 recognized standout indie titles during the Game Developers Conference. Winners included Titanium Court in Excellence in Design and Perfect Tides: Station to Station in Excellence in Narrative. The ceremony showcased a diverse pool of innovative games from independent developers.

The IGF Awards 2026, held as part of the Game Developers Conference, celebrated some of the most interesting and peculiar indie games submitted that year. According to a first-round judge, the finalists represented an extraordinary selection of truly independent works, with dozens of industry judges reviewing hundreds of entries to surface hidden gems.

In the Excellence in Design category, Titanium Court by AP Thomson and published by Fellow Traveller took the win. The judge described it as a "wonderfully strange strategic RPG deckbuilding puzzle," noting its stunning music, astonishing animations, and surreal narrative. Despite lacking a release date or being on sale, the submitted build appeared highly complete, making it a strong contender across multiple categories, including the Nuovo Award.

Perfect Tides: Station to Station by Three Bees won Excellence in Narrative. The judge praised it as immediately one of their top five games ever played, emphasizing its narrative as the game's heart and greatest strength. It also received a nomination for the Seumas McNally Grand Prize.

Baby Steps by Gabe Cuzzillo, Maxi Boch, Bennett Foddy, and Devolver Digital secured the Seumas McNally Grand Prize and Excellence in Audio. Eclipsium by Housefire and CRITICAL REFLEX won Excellence in Visual Arts for its visually fascinating lo-fi art that creates a breathing world in a walking simulator.

Other notable finalists included Öoo by NamaTakahashi, a metroidvania puzzle game featuring a bomb-bodied caterpillar; Time Flies by Playables, an experimental game about a fly with a short lifespan and to-do list; and Ambrosia Sky by Soft Rains, blending elements of Prey and PowerWash Simulator in an asteroid colony cleaning adventure.

The Audience Award went to Wednesdays by The Pixel Hunt, ARTE France, Pierre Corbinais, exaheva, and Christophe Galati. The WINGS Award for women and gender-marginalized led games featured finalists like Backpack Battles and The Wandering Village, with Ambrosia Sky highlighted for its potential to gain more attention.

The judge noted the ceremony's effectiveness in spotlighting indie titles worth buying or wishlisting immediately.
