No. 10 Iowa defeated No. 12 Ohio State 91-70 on Sunday afternoon at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, snapping the Buckeyes' seven-game winning streak. Freshman Addie Deal led the Hawkeyes with a career-high 20 points, while senior Hannah Stuelke recorded her sixth double-double of the season. The game was marred early by an injury to Iowa guard Taylor McCabe.
The No. 10 Iowa Hawkeyes (18-2, 9-0 Big Ten) hosted the No. 12 Ohio State Buckeyes (18-3, 7-2 Big Ten) in a crucial conference matchup inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Iowa jumped out to an early lead after Ohio State started hot with an 8-2 run. A 12-0 response from the Hawkeyes, fueled by Addie Deal's eight points in the first quarter, put Iowa up 24-14 after one.
In the second quarter, Kylie Feuerbach opened with back-to-back threes, contributing to Iowa's 24 points, including five from beyond the arc. The Hawkeyes' defense held Ohio State to 25% shooting from three, securing a 48-32 halftime lead with 17 rebounds.
Iowa continued dominating after the break, scoring their first 12 points in the paint and shooting 58.8% from the field in the third. Stuelke added four rebounds to reach her double-double, as Iowa extended the lead to 71-51 entering the fourth.
Both teams tightened defense late, but Ava Heiden went 4-for-4 in the paint, and Chit-Chat Wright scored eight in the quarter for 14 total. The Hawkeyes closed out the 91-70 victory, marking their eighth straight win and a 9-0 Big Ten start, tying the best since 1995-96.
Key performances included Deal's 20 points, five assists, and three rebounds—her best against a Big Ten foe since Caitlin Clark in 2021. Stuelke had 18 points and 14 rebounds, Heiden added 18 points, eight rebounds, and four steals, and Wright contributed 14 points with five rebounds and four assists. Feuerbach tallied eight points and a career-high eight assists.
The game started ominously for Iowa when senior guard Taylor McCabe suffered a noncontact left knee injury on the first defensive possession while guarding Ohio State's Ava Watson. McCabe, averaging 8.5 points per game, did not return and was seen with her knee wrapped. Coach Jan Jensen expressed concern postgame: "Lots of prayers up for McCabe. We don’t know what it is yet, but that kid’s meant so much and she’s led so beautifully."
This win marks the first time in program history Iowa has beaten three AP Top 25 teams in three consecutive regular-season games. Iowa improves to 5-2 against ranked foes this season and 21-1 when scoring 80+ under Jensen.
