Iván Cepeda appoints María José Pizarro as debate chief in his campaign

Presidential precandidate Iván Cepeda announced at a press conference in Plaza Núñez del Congreso that Senator María José Pizarro will take on the role of political debate chief for his 2026 election campaign. He also confirmed the start of the second phase of his electoral strategy and urged the National Electoral Council to grant legal personality to the movement.

At a press conference held in Plaza Núñez del Congreso, presidential precandidate from the Historic Pact, Iván Cepeda, made several key announcements ahead of the 2026 elections. One of the main ones was the appointment of Senator María José Pizarro as the political debate chief for his campaign. This decision comes after Pizarro was not selected as the head of the Senate list, a position that will ultimately be filled by Carolina Corcho, who competed with Cepeda in the movement's internal consultation.

Cepeda also confirmed the official start of the second stage of the electoral strategy. “From this moment on, we embark with strength across the country on the second phase of our campaign, with committees and structures in every territory. We will continue traversing streets, paths, and departments, dialoguing with people in public acts and mobilizations,” stated the precandidate.

Additionally, he called on the National Electoral Council to grant legal personality to the movement. Regarding the formation of the Broad Front, Cepeda emphasized that it is not an agreement among elites or particular interests, but a participatory project built from citizenship. This move aims to bolster the Historic Pact's structure amid preparations for the electoral contest.
