Javier Milei swears in Diego Santilli as interior minister

President Javier Milei swore in Diego Santilli as the new interior minister in a Casa Rosada ceremony attended by PRO allies but not Mauricio Macri. Santilli pledged to coordinate with governors to push key reforms. The event is part of a cabinet restructuring redistributing areas like communications and migrations.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on November 11, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the Salón Blanco of the Casa Rosada in Buenos Aires. Javier Milei administered the oath to Diego Santilli, who swore by “God, the Homeland, and the Holy Gospels” and signed the book of acts. Immediately after, Milei hugged Santilli, who greeted family and allies present, including deputy Cristian Ritondo and PRO representatives in the Buenos Aires Legislature. Sebastián Pareja, head of La Libertad Avanza in Buenos Aires, joked: “You filled the hall with yellows”.

Santilli, a former national deputy, formally joins the cabinet after prior meetings with governors. In subsequent statements, he said: “We will have a common agenda with the governors” and “I come to work to sustain the reforms the President is carrying out”. On social media, he posted: “I assume with the commitment to work tirelessly as a team to move forward with the reforms that millions of Argentines voted for in October, to end so many years of decay”.

The oath occurs amid a cabinet restructuring. By decree 793/2025, published in the Official Gazette, the Secretariat of Communications and Media is eliminated and transferred to the Chief of Staff, led by Manuel Adorni, who also incorporates Tourism, Environment, and Sports. Patricia Bullrich, Security Minister, assumes control of Migrations and Renaper. Ritondo praised the appointment: “It’s very good for the Government. I know what Diego can contribute, with his dialogue and good ties with the governors”.

Santilli began his agenda with meetings with governors such as Ignacio Torres of Chubut, Raúl Jalil of Catamarca, Marcelo Orrego of San Juan, and Martín Llaryora of Córdoba. He plans a federal tour starting Wednesday through provinces like Entre Ríos, Mendoza, and Chaco to secure support for the 2026 Budget and labor, tax, and Penal Code reforms. Regarding Mauricio Macri's absence, Santilli explained it was an “intimate” and “austere” ceremony. The measure aims for greater efficiency in management, according to the official decree.
