Jay Shetty launches Perfect Strangers production company with Netflix deals

Jay Shetty, host of the 'On Purpose' podcast, has launched a new production company called Perfect Strangers Media, focusing on stories that highlight human connections. The Los Angeles-based firm has secured deals with Netflix for two TV series, one scripted and one unscripted. Shetty aims to expand his mission of making ancient wisdom accessible through film, TV, and podcasts.

Jay Shetty, a bestselling author, entrepreneur, and host of the popular podcast “On Purpose,” is venturing into television and film with his newly formed production company, Perfect Strangers Media. Based in Los Angeles, the company operates under the website perfectstrangersmedia.com and is dedicated to producing content that "reminds us we’re not alone" and shows "how connected we already are," according to its description.

Perfect Strangers has already closed deals with Netflix for two projects: a scripted series and an unscripted series, both in development. Details about the series were not disclosed. Beyond these, the company is developing a wide range of series and films. It also has one podcast in production and several more in development, while Shetty’s “On Purpose” remains part of iHeartMedia’s iHeartPodcasts network. The podcast features conversations with musicians, actors, athletes, founders, creators, experts, and thinkers aimed at fostering honest discussions that resonate personally.

Shetty, who is British-born and a former Hindu monk, began sharing content online more than nine years ago via Facebook and YouTube, eventually going viral and building a large following. “I didn’t know where it would lead, I just knew I wanted to make ancient wisdom more accessible to a modern audience,” Shetty stated. His podcast, launched in 2019, seeks to make the world "healthier, happier and more healed." Through Perfect Strangers, he is broadening this vision to address feelings of isolation, especially in current times. “It has been incredible to see the real impact of everything we’ve created thus far and I am so excited to see what’s to come. This feels like just the beginning,” he added.

Shetty’s publishing success includes his 2020 debut book “Think Like a Monk,” which topped bestseller lists, and his 2023 follow-up “8 Rules of Love,” inspired by pandemic-era questions about relationships.

Leading the company are Joe Hooten as head of film and TV, bringing over seven years from John Wells Productions where he contributed to projects like “Untamed,” “Maid,” “Shameless,” and “Rescue: Hi Surf,” and Nicole Berg as creative director, who has collaborated with Shetty for the past four years to maintain creative consistency.
