Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jorge Soler's seven-game suspension from the April 7 brawl against Atlanta Braves pitcher Reynaldo López has been reduced to four games following his appeal. He'll miss games starting Wednesday and return Sunday after the San Diego Padres series.
Major League Baseball announced the reduction on Tuesday, allowing the slugger back for the Angels' homestand. In the incident—detailed in prior coverage—Soler homered off López in the first, was hit by a 96 mph fastball in the third, then charged the mound after a high pitch in the fifth, leading to ejections and benches clearing. López, Soler's former Braves teammate from late 2024, accepted a five-game ban. Soler went 14-for-23 lifetime with five homers against López entering the game. Through interpreter Jobel Jiménez, Soler said López's post-pitch words upset him: “I asked him if everything was OK and the answer he gave me, I didn’t like it.” Batting .280 with four homers and 10 RBIs over his last seven games, Soler lamented, “I feel sad because the way the team is playing right now. We’re on a good track, and it’s a shame to not be part of the team right now."
