President José Antonio Kast gathered former presidents at La Moneda on Thursday to mark 200 years of the Presidency of the Republic. Gabriel Boric and Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle attended with family members of Sebastián Piñera and Patricio Aylwin.
The day included a protocol lunch in the Red Room at La Moneda and a later visit to the Museo Histórico Nacional. Boric arrived first at 13:00, accompanied by First Lady María Pía Adriasola who guided part of the tour. Frei paid tribute to his father before entering.
During the ceremony Boric recalled the letter he handed to Kast on 11 March and stated: “We have been rivals in ideas, we will surely continue to be, but Chile unites us”. Kast responded by highlighting that “Chile comes first” and republican continuity.
Frei stressed respect for institutions, while Miguel Aylwin and Cecilia Morel valued the legacy of their relatives. Bachelet and Lagos did not attend due to overseas commitments and health issues.
