Lula urges left to wear green and yellow at World Cup

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said the Brazilian left must adopt green and yellow colors during the 2026 World Cup to prevent them from being associated with fascists.

During the launch of the Tela Brasil streaming platform in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, Lula commented on the use of national colors. He suggested that Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere wear green and yellow with the message "não bolsonarista".

"We will have to wear green and yellow at this World Cup so that Brazil's colors are not taken by any fascist", the president declared, drawing applause.

Lula also noted that Brazil has gained international respect because "anyone who wants to be respected has to respect themselves". He praised interim Governor Ricardo Couto and criticized privatizations such as that of BR Distribuidora.

Tela Brasil offers more than 560 Brazilian audiovisual works with accessibility features and is available at telabrasil.cultura.gov.br.
