Polish tennis player Maja Chwalinska has withdrawn from the upcoming MSC Hamburg Ladies Open due to an ongoing ankle injury sustained at Wimbledon.
Chwalinska, who reached the French Open final as a qualifier earlier this year, hurt her ankle during a first-round loss at Wimbledon. She slipped on the grass and twisted the joint while leading against Mananchaya Sawangkaew.
The 24-year-old announced the withdrawal on July 16. “Unfortunately, despite the positive progress with my ankle and on the advice of my medical team, I am not yet ready to return to competition,” she said. “Therefore, I have to withdraw from this year’s MSC Hamburg Ladies Open.”
The Hamburg event is scheduled to start on July 20. Chwalinska also pulled out of the Wimbledon doubles draw and may delay her return to the hard-court swing until the Mubadala DC Open, which begins July 27.
