Man arrested after dragging ex-girlfriend on São Paulo streets

Douglas Alves da Silva, 26, was arrested Sunday night (30) in a hotel in Vila Prudente, east zone of São Paulo, after running over and dragging his ex-girlfriend Tainara Souza Santos along city streets. The 31-year-old victim lost both legs in the Saturday (29) incident and remains in ICU. The case is being investigated as attempted feminicide.

The incident took place Saturday morning (November 29, 2025), in Parque Novo Mundo, north zone of São Paulo. Douglas Alves da Silva was driving a black Golf and hit Tainara Souza Santos near a bar on an avenue leading to the Marginal Tietê. Witnesses said the hit-and-run was intentional: he kept driving with her body caught on the vehicle, dragging her along a stretch of the marginal. Security cameras and videos from nearby drivers captured the moment, showing abrupt car maneuvers like pulling the handbrake.

Tainara was rescued and taken to Hospital Municipal Vereador José Storopolli, where both legs were amputated – one already lost during the dragging. She required a blood transfusion, is intubated and in ICU, with brain swelling but no severity shown on tomography. Friends say she is a mother of two children (12 and 8 years old), worked in e-commerce production, and was described as cheerful and playful. Her childhood friend Letícia Dias said: “She is a very good person, but what happened to her will stay with her for the rest of her life.” Her brother Luan added: “She likes to go out, have fun, doesn't start fights, is loved.”

Military Police used camera footage and radar data to identify Douglas, but he was not at his initial address. It was initially thought he fled to Ceará, but he was located by civilian police from Cerco (Central Specialized in Repression of Crimes and Various Occurrences), the 4th Sectional, and the 90th DP. During the arrest around 8:40 p.m. Sunday, he resisted and tried to grab an officer's gun, prompting shots that hit his arm. After restraint and hospital treatment, he was taken to the 73rd DP (Jaçanã), where the case is investigated as attempted feminicide, with initial findings confirming intent to kill.

The Public Security Secretariat, under new secretary Osvaldo Nico Gonçalves, confirmed the arrest. Douglas's defense was not located. The victim's lawyers, Fábio Costa and Wilson Zaska, stated: “The case will never go unpunished and justice will be served.”
