'Manhunter: The Final Cut' set for July 24 release

A 4K restoration and director’s cut of the 1986 thriller 'Manhunter' will receive a limited theatrical release on July 24 to mark the film’s 40th anniversary. The version, overseen by director Michael Mann, is the same as the 2003 restored director’s cut.

The release commemorates the original film’s debut on August 15, 1986. It adds a few minutes to a scene at the Atlanta police station and includes extra lines in an early encounter with the character Dr. Lecter.

A new scene at the end shows the protagonist visiting another family. The cut removes some visual details from a shootout sequence.

The source notes that the added material makes the new version weaker than the original theatrical edition.
