Marcos promotes 50 PNP generals, urges no complacency

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the promotion of 50 Philippine National Police generals at Malacañang on December 17, urging them not to be complacent amid rising security challenges. He emphasized the need for police visibility during the holiday season to ensure public safety. The event highlighted government support for law enforcers through salary increases and allowances.

On Wednesday, December 17, at Malacañang Palace, 50 newly promoted Philippine National Police (PNP) generals took their oath before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Six were elevated to Police Major General, while 44 advanced to Police Brigadier General. Marcos stressed that higher ranks bring broader authority and greater responsibility. 'This is the stage where leadership is being measured by your judgment, restraint, and consistency in upholding the law. So, I ask you to continue to improve yourselves—personally, professionally, institutionally. Do not be complacent,' he said. He added, 'Be firm, be fair, be decisive while remaining fully respectful to the rights and dignity of every single Filipino.'

Marcos highlighted challenges like social divisions, political noise, and digital threats that could spark disorder. 'These threats can trigger disorder, which may escalate beyond physical spaces. In this environment, our people rely on the police as their immediate and dependable line of protection,' he explained. Amid the holiday season, he urged the PNP to maintain visibility on roads, public spaces, transport hubs, and communities to ensure safety and enhance Christmas joy. 'As we are in the holiday season, when more people are out in public and families are on the move, this period calls for heightened security and vigilance. So, maintain a visible and reassuring presence,' he stated.

The promotions came two weeks after Marcos issued an executive order increasing the base pay for military and uniformed personnel over three years, along with raising the daily subsistence allowance to P350. 'Alongside these measures, we remain committed to supporting and ensuring the welfare of your families—recognizing that their well-being is integral to your service as a nation,' the president said. The PNP's credibility remains key amid political controversies that present increasingly sophisticated challenges to the government.
