The first trailer for Matchbox: The Movie debuted on Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con in Hall H. The Apple TV film stars John Cena and Jessica Biel and is set to premiere on October 9.
John Cena stars as Sean Walker, an undercover CIA agent and former leader of a group of friends whose return upends their lives. The group gets drawn into a global chase involving a nuclear warhead after being taken prisoner on a cargo jet.
Directed by Sam Hargrave with a script by David Coggeshall, the cast also includes Arturo Castro, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris, Danai Gurira, Golshifteh Farahani, Corey Stoll and Bill Camp. Additional stars named in reports are Jessica Biel and Randeep Hooda.
The project draws from the Matchbox toy cars first released in 1953. Producers include David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger and Robbie Brenner for Mattel Films. The film joins other Mattel adaptations such as Barbie.
