MENA Tour kicks off inaugural Egypt Golf Series 2026 on January 19

The first tournament of the Egypt Golf Series 2026 kicks off this Monday, January 19, as part of the MENA Golf Tour, a premier developmental circuit for professional golf. The opening event will be held at the renowned New Giza Golf Club from January 19 to 21, marking the start of an intensive four-week swing in Egypt.

This series marks the start of a strategic partnership between the MENA Golf Tour and the Egyptian Golf Federation, featuring a total prize pool of $400,000, with $100,000 at each tournament. In addition, competitors will earn Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points at every event. The New Giza Golf Club, designed by Thomson, Perrett & Lobb, offers a world-class layout as the perfect backdrop for launching the Egypt swing.

The tour continues at Egypt's premier venues: the second tournament from January 24 to 26 at Address Marassi Golf Resort on the Mediterranean Coast, the third from January 29 to 31 at the same resort, and the grand finale from February 3 to 5 at Madinaty Golf Club in Cairo, recognized as the top-ranked course in Egypt and Africa.

The field includes over 100 international competitors, heightening the battle for MENA Golf Tour Rankings supremacy. Italy's Ludovico Addabbo, currently second, aims to close the gap on leader Chris Wood, a former Ryder Cup star who skips the opening event but is confirmed for the next two at Marassi. Key players to watch include Scotland's Aidan O’Hagan, Sebastian Sandin, Wales's Toby Hunt, Austria's Aron Zemmer, Spain's Alejandro Cañizares, England's Ashley Chesters, and Jordan Wrisdale.

Egypt's representation blends professional experience with amateur promise, led by pros Ahmed Morgan and Nour Shibl, backed by talents like Issa Abou El Ela, Mohamed Abou El Ela, Abdelmonem El Shafei, and Adam Elshamy.

Omar Hisham Talaat, President of the Egyptian Golf Federation, underscored the series' significance: “The launch of the Egypt Golf Series is a fundamental pillar of the Golf Federation’s strategy. Our primary objective is to solidify Egypt’s position on the global golf map and enhance its presence as a premier destination for elite regional and international tournaments. This initiative directly supports the national push for sports tourism by showcasing Egypt’s world-class facilities and superior infrastructure to a global audience.” He also highlighted its developmental role: “Partnering with the MENA Tour is about more than just hosting events; it’s about creating a pathway for the next generation. This platform allows us to identify and polish home-grown talent, giving Egyptian golfers the competitive edge they need to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with international professionals.”

MENA Tour Chairman and Commissioner Keith Waters called it a landmark: “We are thrilled to launch this series in Egypt and look forward to four exceptional weeks of competition. The collaboration with the Egyptian Golf Federation is essential to our mission. By offering a $400,000 purse and OWGR points, we are creating a high-stakes environment where local stars and international professionals can compete at the highest level.”
