Minecraft Dungeons 2, a sequel to the 2020 action-RPG spin-off, will launch later this year on PC via Xbox and Steam, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and Xbox Series with Game Pass support. The announcement came after a premature leak from Gematsu's social media post. Publisher Xbox Game Studios and developers Mojang Studios and Double Eleven confirmed the project ahead of its formal reveal at Minecraft Live.
The news broke when Gematsu accidentally shared details on social media earlier today, prompting an official press release. Mojang described the game as an all-new action-RPG adventure featuring high-stakes encounters, thrilling challenges, and exploration of never-before-seen locations in the Minecraft universe. Players can collect loads of loot and cooperate with up to three friends to save a world in crisis. The studio emphasized that Minecraft Dungeons 2 is indeed the direct sequel to the original Minecraft Dungeons, encouraging newcomers to catch up on the first game ahead of more upcoming news. The 2020 title proved highly successful, reaching over 10 million players by February 2021 and 25 million by April 2024, becoming the top-selling Minecraft spin-off. For context, the core Minecraft game has sold 350 million copies, placing it as the second-best-selling game ever after Tetris. Eurogamer previously called the first Dungeons promising, noting it as the most promising Minecraft spin-off at launch.
