Muna announce fourth album and new single

Indie pop trio Muna have announced their fourth studio album, Dancing on the Wall, set for release on May 8 via Saddest Factory/Secretly Group. The band shared the title track as the lead single, accompanied by an anthemic music video. They also revealed plans for intimate shows in the US and UK this May.

Muna, the LA-based indie pop trio, returned on February 10 with news of their first new album in four years. Dancing on the Wall follows their 2022 self-titled release, which marked their debut as an independent act after signing to Phoebe Bridgers' Saddest Factory Records. The upcoming LP, produced by band member Naomi McPherson, explores themes of emotional risk and collective release, balancing propulsion and introspection with euphoria and unease.

In a statement, Muna described the title track as 'possibly our favorite song we’ve made as a band.' They explained: 'We think it’s all the best parts of MUNA - it’s coming from a really emotional and lonely place, but the song itself makes us feel powerful and euphoric. It’s written in the moment that the clock strikes midnight at the ball, and you have to give up the fantasy. In this case, it’s the fantasy of loving someone or something that can’t love you back.' The upbeat, '80s-influenced track features lyrics expressing frustration over an absent object of desire, such as 'I should’ve told you not to waste my time/ But you’re so magnetic, it’s like what’s the use.'

The album reflects a 'fiercely self-directed creative vision, rooted in instinct, trust, and total artistic control,' according to the label. It invites listeners onto the dancefloor while keeping its inner world 'deliberately unresolved.' The tracklist includes: 01 It Gets So Hot, 02 Dancing On The Wall, 03 Eastside Girls, 04 Wannabeher, 05 On Call, 06 So What, 07 Party’s Over, 08 Big Stick, 09 Mary Jane, 10 Girl’s Girl, 11 …Unless, 12 Why Do I Get A Good Feeling, 13 Buzzkiller.

To mark the announcement, Muna scheduled intimate underplay shows: May 8 at The Shrine in LA; May 16-18 at Music Hall of Williamsburg in NYC; and May 26-28 at Heaven in London. The band previously opened for Taylor Swift on her Eras Tour and performed with artists including Lorde, Boygenius, and Phoebe Bridgers. Katie Gavin released her solo debut What A Relief in 2024 via Saddest Factory, while McPherson appeared in the 2024 film Saturday Night.
