Netflix orders hockey romance Icebreaker from Gossip Girl writer

Netflix has ordered a new series adaptation of the Hannah Grace novel Icebreaker. The hockey romance follows a figure skater and a hockey player who share the rink. Amanda Lasher will serve as showrunner.

The streamer announced the series order on Monday. It centers on Anastasia Allen, a competitive figure skater focused on Olympic gold, who must share ice time with Nate Hawkins, a determined hockey player. Their professional ambitions clash with growing personal attraction.

Lasher, known for work on Gossip Girl and Riverdale, is joined by co-writer Jade Bartlett. In a statement, Lasher noted her longstanding interest in the genre and expressed enthusiasm for adapting the book with the Unwell team and Netflix.

The project follows other hockey-themed series. Heated Rivalry premiered on HBO Max in November, while Off Campus debuted on Prime Video in May and drew strong initial viewership. Jinny Howe, Netflix head of scripted series for the U.S. and Canada, highlighted the platform's track record with romance novel adaptations.
