A sequel to the Luther film is in development at Netflix, with Anya Chalotra and Kyle Soller announced as new cast members alongside returning stars Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson. The ensemble also includes Niamh Algar, Ian Hart, and Stephen Dillane in undisclosed roles. The story will focus on brutal murders in London drawing Luther back into action.
The upcoming Luther sequel expands its cast with additions from popular series. Idris Elba reprises his role as DCI John Luther, while Ruth Wilson returns as Alice Morgan, having sat out the previous film, Luther: The Fallen Sun. Anya Chalotra, known from The Witcher, and Kyle Soller, from Poldark and Andor, join in roles not yet revealed, as reported by Deadline. They will appear alongside Niamh Algar, Ian Hart, and Stephen Dillane of Game of Thrones fame. Dermot Crowley is back as DSU Martin Schenk from the original BBC series and the first movie. Jamie Payne directs, having helmed episodes of the TV show and the 2023 film. The plot centers on a new wave of brutal, seemingly random murders in London, with Luther secretly called back into service. The synopsis poses: 'But how can he save London when everyone on all sides seems to want him dead?' Director Jamie Payne described the story as a 'wonderfully dark tale' and expressed joy at returning with Elba and Crowley, thrilled to reunite with Wilson as Alice Morgan. Creator Neil Cross called the characters family, curious about their fates and lurking horrors in London without Luther. The original Luther series ran for five seasons on BBC One from 2010 to 2019. Luther: The Fallen Sun had a limited cinema release in February 2023 before streaming on Netflix from March 10 that year. Seasons 1-5 are available on BBC iPlayer, and The Fallen Sun on Netflix.
