Nintendo announces Direct for Super Mario Galaxy Movie trailer

Nintendo has revealed plans for a special Direct presentation focused on the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The event, set for November 12, 2025, will premiere the film's official trailer without discussing any new games. The movie is slated for a theatrical release on April 3, 2026.

Event Details

Nintendo will host a Nintendo Direct on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. ET / 11 p.m. JST. The presentation centers entirely on The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the sequel to 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie. As confirmed by Nintendo, no game-related information will be included.

Movie Background

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie was first unveiled in September 2025, with an initial trailer confirming its title and April 3, 2026, release date. The film is co-financed by Nintendo and Universal Pictures, with Universal handling distribution. It draws inspiration from the critically acclaimed Super Mario Galaxy games originally released on the Nintendo Wii in 2007 and 2010.

Directors Aaron Horwath and Michael Jelenic return from the first film, with Matthew Fogel penning the screenplay. Composer Brian Tyler also reprises his role for the score.

Cast and Production Insights

The voice cast includes familiar faces: Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. New characters will expand the universe based on the Galaxy games.

Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto shared thoughts on the project in a recent interview. "The Super Mario Bros. Movie was possible because so many people took action and worked together," he said. "As a producer, I tried to make sure the team functioned smoothly. Many of the people involved said they’d like to work on the next project as well, so I guess that means we succeeded to some extent?"

Miyamoto added, "The setting for the next movie is, just as the title says, the galaxy — that’s all I can really say. We’re in the final stages of production now, but I think it’s going to be fun. I usually just say, ‘I’ll keep working on it until it becomes fun,’ so that alone should tell you how confident I am (laughs)."

This Direct builds on Nintendo's expanding film efforts, following the success of the previous Mario movie.
