Parking lots at Katedralskolan and Tiundaskolan open to public

Since April 27, parking lots at Katedralskolan and Tiundaskolan in Uppsala have opened to the public around the clock every day. Fees are lower than on nearby streets to reduce pressure on residential parking. The move aims for more efficient land use and better city center access.

The parking lots at Katedralskolan and Tiundaskolan are no longer reserved for school staff with special daytime permits. Paul Eskilsson (MP), chair of Uppsala parkering och mobilitet AB, states fees at Katedralskolan dropped 20 percent and at Tiundaskolan 40 percent compared to nearby street rates.

"Fees at the lots will be slightly lower than on surrounding streets. This makes parking cheaper for school staff and other visitors alike, while easing pressure on residential parking streets," Eskilsson says.

Since 2025, staff permit prices matched street rates, leading to sharply reduced occupancy. The areas have largely stood empty during days, per the municipality.

Eskilsson highlights the large lots' prime locations now used more efficiently, with charging stations available for overnight use by locals.

Municipal council chair Erik Pelling (S) views this as part of creating city-center parking like Norra Hovstallängen and Salaplan. More school lots may open to cut inner-city car traffic and boost walking and cycling. Katedralskolan has 83 spots including 18 chargers; Tiundaskolan 51 spots including 8 chargers.
