A day after Kolkata Police promised swift resolution, the passport renewal process for former The Telegraph editor R Rajagopal has been initiated following a positive verification report.
The District Control Security Cell in Kolkata has submitted a police report to the Regional Passport Office. Official status indicates printing, lamination, signing, quality check and dispatch will follow.
Rajagopal’s application had been delayed since April after his name was removed from West Bengal electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision. He had missed his daughter’s wedding in the United States due to the lack of a valid passport.
He is scheduled to appear before the Regional Passport Office on July 17. The journalist had earlier noted being summoned for verification by Ballygunge police station in early April.
