Pophouse acquires Tina Turner's name, image and music rights

Pophouse Entertainment has bought the rights to Tina Turner's name, image and likeness, plus a majority stake in her music catalog from BMG. The deal aims to preserve her legacy through potential immersive projects. Specific plans will be announced in the coming months.

Pophouse Entertainment, co-founded by ABBA's Björn Ulvaeus, announced the acquisition of Tina Turner's name, image and likeness rights, as reported by the Associated Press. The company also secured a majority share of her music rights from BMG, though financial terms remain undisclosed. Tina Turner, who passed away in 2023, is noted for her strong visual presence and stage energy, according to Pophouse CEO Jessica Koravos. She stated that the firm is interested in projects to 'portray that and try to re-create that to some degree,' with the goal to 'consolidate [Turner’s] legacy.' Koravos mentioned an upcoming announcement within six months but did not confirm plans for a digital avatar like those used in other projects. Turner's estate was informed and involved in discussions but not a direct party to the transaction. BMG retains an undisclosed portion of the catalog. Alistair Norbury, president of BMG U.K., Continental Europe and APAC, emphasized in a statement: '[BMG’s] responsibility, alongside Pophouse and the estate, is to ensure her work continues to resonate with audiences around the world, while remaining true to the strength, independence, and originality that defined her career.' Pophouse specializes in digital avatars and immersive experiences, having launched the ABBA Voyage show in 2021. It previously acquired Kiss's catalog, brand and IP for over $300 million in 2024, debuted their avatars during the band's 2023 farewell tour with a dedicated show planned for 2027, secured majority rights to Cyndi Lauper's music in 2024, and owns most of Avicii's music rights.
