PSC chairman mourns death of Festac DPO Matilda Ngbaronye

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission has expressed profound grief over the passing of Chief Superintendent Matilda Ngbaronye, the Divisional Police Officer for Festac Division in Lagos. Ngbaronye, a 15-year veteran of the Nigeria Police Force, died on Friday. The PSC highlighted her dedication and commitment to service.

Chief Superintendent of Police Matilda Ngbaronye, who served as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Festac Division in Lagos, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2025. She had dedicated 15 years to the Nigeria Police Force, joining on April 19, 2010, and rising steadily through the ranks to become a Chief Superintendent in December 2024.

In a statement issued on Sunday, October 26, 2025, by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations for the Police Service Commission (PSC), Chairman DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.) described Ngbaronye as a "dedicated, disciplined, and hardworking professional who gave her best to the service of the nation." He noted the influx of tributes from colleagues, underscoring her reputation as one of the most committed officers in the Lagos State Police Command.

Ngbaronye's career included key roles such as Crime Officer at Dolphin Estate Division in Ikoyi, General Investigation and Fingerprint Expert at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, and Head of the Public Complaints Bureau. She also excelled internationally as Public Information Officer with the African Union Mission in Somalia, earning commendations for outstanding performance.

In December 2020, then Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu appointed her as Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for Lagos State Command. She was promoted to Superintendent of Police in February 2021 and served as DPO at Iponri Division before her Festac posting.

Argungu extended condolences to the Inspector-General of Police, the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Ngbaronye's aged mother, and her family. He prayed for the repose of her soul and reaffirmed the PSC's commitment to enhancing police officers' welfare and working conditions nationwide.
