Revenue service pays largest income tax refund batch in 2026 history

Brazil's Federal Revenue Service paid the largest income tax refund batch of 2026 on Friday (29), totaling R$ 16 billion for 8.7 million taxpayers. The deadline for filing declarations ends at 11:59 p.m. today, with more than 42.4 million submissions received so far.

The first batch covered taxpayers with legal priorities, such as the elderly, people with disabilities and teachers. Refunds also went to those who filed by May 10, chose Pix and used the pre-filled declaration.

José Carlos Fonseca, national supervisor of income tax, said the second batch will be paid on June 30 and should include more priority refunds. The Revenue Service cut the number of batches from five to four this year, concentrating 80% of payments in the first two super batches.

By 5:10 p.m. today, 1.6 million taxpayers had not yet filed. The agency expects up to 44 million declarations in total. About 2 million are expected to fall into the fine mesh, representing 5% of filers.

The Revenue Service also announced that 4.5 million taxpayers will receive R$ 500 million in automatic refunds on July 15.
