São Paulo drivers face jams leaving for prolonged holiday

Drivers leaving São Paulo on Wednesday evening (19) for the prolonged Black Consciousness Day holiday face slowdowns and jams on major highways. The Anchieta-Imigrantes system has 15 km of congestion around 20:50. An estimated over 18 million vehicles are expected on roads until Sunday.

On the eve of the prolonged Black Consciousness Day holiday, São Paulo drivers face heavy traffic leaving the capital on Wednesday evening (19). According to Ecovias, around 20:50, the Anchieta-Imigrantes system recorded 15 km of jams toward Baixada Santista. There was slowdown on Imigrantes between km 34 and 44, and km 65 and 70. The route to Guarujá had a 17 km jam from km 266 to 249.

Over 600,000 vehicles are expected on the Anchieta-Imigrantes system until Sunday (23). Depending on demand, special operations like 7x3 and 2x8 may be implemented on the serra to boost capacity in the high-flow direction.

On the Castello Branco/Raposo Tavares system toward the interior, there were about 30 km of slowdowns in both directions, including marginal and express lanes. One jam was due to works between km 19 and 26 on Castello Branco.

Rodovia dos Tamoios, the main link to northern coast, was clear in the serra section around 20h, per Tamoios concessionaire. Artesp estimates 18.1 million vehicles on corridors connecting capital, interior, and coast until Sunday.

Authorities warn of worst exit and return times. For Anchieta-Imigrantes, avoid leaving Thursday (20) from 6h to 15h, and return Sunday from 10h to midnight. Operations like 3rd Lane and Truck are planned to manage traffic.
