Precipitation with freezing rain has largely subsided, a DWD spokesperson said overnight. Previously, the weather service had given the all-clear for Berlin and the rest of Brandenburg.
Isolated areas may still be slippery and thus dangerous. For Berlin and Brandenburg, an official warning for significant slipperiness now applies, corresponding to level 2 of the DWD's multi-stage warning system. Severe weather warnings are level 3. Unnecessary stays outdoors and trips should be avoided, and driving behavior adjusted, the weather service stated. There is an increased risk of slipperiness due to freezing rain.
In the context of persistent winter conditions in northern and eastern Germany, the weather has also halted operations at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER). The airport suspended operations due to black ice. Additionally, a series of accidents on the A10 in Brandenburg resulted in numerous injuries. Snowfalls and slipperiness have caused restrictions across Germany for days, especially in the east.
