Sheinbaum to announce minimum wage increase on December 1

President Claudia Sheinbaum will reveal the 2026 minimum wage increase on December 1, along with possible progress on the 40-hour workweek reform. This announcement aims to benefit thousands of workers in Mexico ahead of the holiday season. Experts anticipate a rise between 11 and 12 percent.

President Claudia Sheinbaum has stated that the official announcement on the 2026 minimum wage increase will take place on Monday, December 1. In recent statements, she mentioned that an agreement on the labor reform reducing the workweek to 40 hours might also be presented. "We will inform soon, on December 1, about the minimum wage increase and the 40 hours issue; an agreement is being reached", the leader expressed.

No final decision has been made yet, but the National Commission on Minimum Wages (Conasami) started its evaluation in mid-November. In 2025, the daily minimum wage is 278.80 pesos, equivalent to 8,364 pesos monthly. Analysts estimate an increase of 11 or 12 percent, raising the figure to 310 or 312.50 pesos daily, respectively.

In September, during an event in Zacatecas on the 5th, Sheinbaum stated: "Next year (2026) and every year of this term, there will be a 12 percent wage increase". However, Willebaldo Gómez Zuppa from the Center for Labor Research and Union Advisory (Cilas) noted that business, labor, and government sectors lean toward 11 percent.

Some unions have proposed a higher 20 percent rise, which would bring the wage to 334.56 pesos daily, though this suggestion is under review. Once announced, the increase will be formalized through a decree published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), effective January 1, 2026. This document will include a table with wages for various trades, differentiated by general zone and the Northern Border Free Zone.
