Shinkafi petitions IGP to probe Dan Bello over Yari videos

Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police to investigate social media influencer Dan Bello over videos alleging diversion of public funds by Senator Abdul’Aziz Abubakar Yari.

The Executive Director of Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development submitted the petition to Inspector-General Tunji Disu on June 28, 2026. It calls for an inquiry into whether criminal offences were committed in videos that named Dan Bello, based in China, as the creator.

The petition states that the videos accused Senator Yari of diverting N1.7 trillion from the Federation Account through Ajap Financial Services Limited and Abdullahi Abdulkarim Tsafe. It claims the content caused reputational damage, emotional distress and loss of business opportunities.

Shinkafi’s group argues that the publications violated the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, and defamation provisions in the Criminal and Penal Codes. The petition includes flash drives containing the videos and screenshots.

It urges the police to investigate the allegations and prosecute the influencer if offences are established.
