Legendary singer S. Janaki was cremated with state honours at a farmhouse near Mysuru on Sunday evening.
Janaki’s granddaughter Apsara Vydyula performed the last rites according to Telugu Brahmin traditions. The ceremony took place at the farmhouse in Kaniyanahundi owned by her admirer Naveen, fulfilling the singer’s wishes. Her husband Ramprasad and son Murali Krishna had passed away earlier.
The event drew ministers, legislators, and film industry figures including S. Jaimala, Bharathi Vishnuvardhan, and Hamsalekha. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar offered condolences and noted plans to discuss memorials with the film industry.
Hamsalekha proposed a meditation centre and music school at the site. Jaimala suggested a study centre at the University of Mysore to examine Janaki’s career across languages.
