SK Telecom and Ericsson sign MOU on AI networks and 6G

SK Telecom announced on Thursday a partnership with Sweden-based Ericsson to jointly develop AI-driven mobile network technologies and advance 6G communication. Under the memorandum of understanding, the companies will promote innovative technologies in 5G environments and lay groundwork for 6G research and standardization.

SK Telecom said on Thursday, March 19, 2026, it has partnered with Sweden-based telecommunications firm Ericsson to jointly develop artificial intelligence (AI)-driven mobile network technologies and advance sixth-generation (6G) communication technology development. Under a memorandum of understanding (MOU), the two companies will establish a cooperative framework to support the continued evolution of network technologies. They plan to promote practical applications of innovative technologies in fifth-generation (5G) environments while laying the groundwork for long-term 6G research and standardization. The collaboration will focus on joint research and validation of cutting-edge network technologies, including AI-based radio access networks (AI-RAN), 5G enhancements, open and autonomous networks, security and 6G standardization. “Our collaboration with Ericsson will serve as a key driver for the evolution of AI-based networks and a crucial foundation for advancing into the 6G era,” said Yu Tak-ki, head of network technology at SK Telecom. Hyundai Motor Group announced a 9 trillion won investment in the Saemangeum area of North Jeolla Province to build an AI data center, robotics cluster, and hydrogen facilities. The initiative was revealed at an MOU signing ceremony attended by President Lee Jae Myung, who vowed strong government support. The project is projected to create about 70,000 jobs and generate 16 trillion won in economic value.

Hyundai Motor Group announced on May 13 it will join a government-led autonomous vehicle project in Gwangju. Hyundai Motor and Kia will develop around 200 vehicles based on the Ioniq 5.
