Sunward Park padel club honors players in inaugural awards

Green Turf Padel held its first league awards ceremony on January 31, celebrating a successful season of competitive padel in Boksburg. The event recognized winners across ladies, men's beginners, men's intermediate, and mixed divisions, highlighting the sport's growth in the region. It underscored the community's role in fostering inclusivity through sports.

The awards ceremony at Green Turf Padel marked the end of an exciting season that drew players from across Ekurhuleni for weekly competitions. Padel, recognized as one of the world's fastest-growing sports, has seen notable expansion in Boksburg, with the event emphasizing Green Turf Sports' dedication to creating an inclusive hub for participants of all skill levels.

Sunward Park-based Green Turf Sports stated, “The success of this league shows what happens when a community rallies around sport. It’s not just about winning matches, it’s about friendships formed, confidence built, and creating a space where people belong.” The evening also celebrated sport's broader impact, as the company added, “Beyond the trophies, the evening celebrated the role sport plays in uplifting the Boksburg community – bringing together families, friends, and players from diverse backgrounds in a positive, active environment.”

Winners in the ladies division included The Rebounders, with Lynette Meyer and Coral Haylock taking first place, followed by Net Divas (Ronel van der Westhuizen, Mireille Stalens, and Michelle McCarthy) and GT-Padelicious (Philine Potgieter and Janine Snyman).

In the men's beginners division, Smash & Dash (Harry van der Westhuizen and Etienne Ehlers) claimed victory, ahead of Old Ballers (Robert Angilley and Doug Angilley) and Super Smash Bros (Barry Petersen and Dallis Killops).

The men's intermediate division saw Tweener Twins (Jordan Duncan and Ayrton Pestana) in first, with Hot Mess (George Karathanasis and John-Paul Meeser) and GT Pro Beginners (George Hadji and Willie Engelbrecht) in second and third.

For the mixed division, Gin & Win (Lynette Meyer and Clinton Ellis) won, followed by Die Beertjies (Carla de Beer and Christo de Beer) and Jamaicans (Patricia Moir and Dallis Killops).
