Vertigo Games is releasing a remake of the classic CD-ROM adventure The 7th Guest on June 4 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. A Nintendo Switch version will follow later, along with an Epic Games Store release. Owners of the 2023 VR version can upgrade for free on compatible platforms.
The 7th Guest, originally launched in 1993 by Trilobyte, helped spark the CD-ROM revolution alongside Myst with its pre-rendered environments and full-motion video sequences set in the eerie mansion of toymaker Henry Stauf. The new remake from Vertigo Games builds on the studio's 2023 VR title, offering fully explorable 3D spaces, updated puzzles, and FMV actors integrated volumetrically for immersive viewing from all angles. It adapts these features for standard controls and flat-screen displays, as shown in the announcement trailer. The game launches at $19.99 USD, with cross-ownership benefits: purchasing the remake grants access to the VR version on Steam or PS5, and vice versa for existing VR owners. Vertigo Games has not detailed every aspect of the remake's differences from the VR original, but the footage suggests a similar moody experience tailored for broader audiences. A Switch release is planned for later.
