The Maccabees debut new song Ballad of So Long in Edinburgh

The Maccabees performed their new track 'Ballad of So Long' for the first time during an intimate show at Edinburgh's Corn Exchange on July 6.

The reunited indie band opened their summer 2026 warm-up dates with the performance. Frontman Orlando Weeks introduced the song to the crowd by saying: “Would anyone like to hear a new song? OK, just remember this is the first time, it’s like introducing a new person. Be polite – you don’t have to be super friendly, they’re new to the party.”

The slow-burning track features a twinkling guitar motif and Weeks singing the refrain “I loved you so much.” It was one of two new songs teased by the group last month.

The Edinburgh concert marked the first of two intimate shows ahead of larger outdoor dates. Weeks later reflected on the reunion: “I loved it, it’s my favourite memories of playing with Maccs.”

The band was scheduled to play Newcastle's O2 City Hall on July 7 before continuing to London on July 9.
