TVK chief Vijay to contest from Perambur, Tiruchi East constituencies

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and actor C. Joseph Vijay announced on Sunday (March 29, 2026) candidates for all 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu and 30 seats in Puducherry. He will make his electoral debut contesting from Perambur in Chennai and Tiruchi East.

C. Joseph Vijay announced his party's candidates list along Uthamar Gandhi Salai in Nungambakkam. In Perambur, DMK incumbent MLA R.D. Shekar is contesting, while the AIADMK front has allocated it to PMK led by Anbumani. In Tiruchi East, DMK's incumbent Inigo Irudayaraj faces AIADMK's K. Rajasekaran.

TVK general secretary 'Bussy' N. Anand will contest from T. Nagar, K.A. Sengottaiyan from his home turf Gobichettipalayam, former AIADMK Agriculture Minister Ku.Pa. Krishnan from Lalgudi. The party announced a total of 23 women candidates.

A section of TVK workers from K.V. Kuppam protested the candidate selection, blocking the arterial road; police removed them. R. Sabarinathan, contesting from Virugambakkam and son of a long-time associate of Vijay, broke down in tears of joy on stage, comforted by Vijay.

Vijay's decision to contest from two constituencies follows a precedent in Tamil Nadu politics, as seen with leaders like J. Jayalalithaa in past elections.
