The University of Northern Iowa track and field team is set to compete in two indoor meets this weekend, marking the final month of their regular season. Panthers will split between the Larry Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska, and the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa. This follows a successful outing last week with new records and multiple wins.
The UNI Panthers track and field squad begins the concluding stretch of their indoor campaign with competitions at the Larry Sevigne Husker Invitational on February 6-7 in Lincoln, Nebraska, and the Iowa State Classic on February 6 in Ames, Iowa. Action at the Husker Invitational starts at 11:30 a.m. CT on Friday at the Devaney Center Indoor Track, continuing Saturday from 10 a.m. CT. Meanwhile, the Iowa State Classic kicks off at 11 a.m. CT Friday at the Lied Recreation Athletic Center.
This weekend's events come after a productive performance at the Meyo Classic in South Bend and the Friday Knight Lights in Waverly. At Meyo, Amelia Hill and Colin Lillie established new program records in the 5,000 meters, with Lillie placing third in 14:20.39 and Hill eighth in 16:38.92. In Waverly, Josey Dunbar won the women's 60-meter hurdles in a personal-best 7.75 seconds, followed by Maleah Walker in second at 7.83. The women's shot put saw Brylie Lorence take first with 45 feet 9.75 inches, Lexy Foster second at 44 feet 11.75 inches, and Lauren Kounkel third at 43 feet 4.25 inches. On the men's side, Daniel Adams finished second in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.34 seconds, with Colin Buch sixth in 8.65.
UNI currently tops the Missouri Valley Conference standings in ten events, including men's 200 meters led by Parker Kiewiet at 21.31 seconds, women's 400 meters by Emma Randecker at 55.58, and women's 5,000 meters by Hill at 16:38.92. Relay and field events also feature strongly, with Carter Morton leading in high jump, long jump, and heptathlon—ranking fourth nationally in the heptathlon and 29th in high jump. Erica Miner heads women's pole vault, and Josey Dunbar leads women's long jump.
